Semi-quantification analysis for ICP-OES

May 01 2024

Thermo Fisher Scientific has introduced a semi-quantitative analysis tool for inductively coupled plasma - optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES), enabling users to profile unknown elemental samples. The new SemiQuant feature, integrated into the Thermo Scientific™ Qtegra™ Intelligent Scientific Data Solution (ISDS) Software and the Thermo Scientific™ iCAP™ PRO Series ICP-OES, utilises Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology and neural networks to streamline composition analysis.

Unlike traditional quantitative methods, semi-quantification determines the relative concentrations of elements in a sample, facilitating rapid screening and trend identification rather than precise quantitation. The implementation within the Qtegra ISDS Software eliminates the need for prior standard or blank analyses, leveraging AI and neural networks for efficient non-targeted elemental screening via ICP-OES.

The semi-quantification approach simplifies workflows, requiring no standard analysis and using AI technology and neural networks to provide an efficient workflow. It enables rapid insights during method development, streamlining optimization, improving method performance, and enhancing the quality of analytical results. All SemiQuant results are obtained without the need to run any calibration solutions.

This innovative tool offers versatile analysis, from preliminary screening to sample preparation and performance assessment. It identifies major and minor elements in samples, assesses sample preparation techniques, evaluates method performance, and detects potential interferences.
