British Mass Spectrometry Society - Annual 3-day Meeting at Cardiff City Hall, 11th - 14th September 2011

After the tremendous success last year of their first conference out of an academic setting, the BMSS are returning to Cardiff City Hall in September 2011. The purpose of this conference is, in line with BMSS aims, to provide an educational forum to discuss issues and applications associated with the use of mass spectrometers.The conference is designed to include and encourage an open exchange of scientific and methodological applications across all levels of expertise in the technique, and is renowned for its informality and community feel.

The 3-day programme will be filled with an array of sessions featuring an abstract led mix of presentations covering all aspects of science touched upon by mass spectrometry. As in last year’s programme the conference will be split into three parallel sessions, so attendees will be able to choose the most relevant talks to their areas of interest. Invited speakers include:

• Richard Evershed, Professor of Biogeochemistry at the University of Bristol;

• David Muddiman, Professor of Mass Spectrometry at North Carolina State University;

• Andrew Tyler Fellow in Metabolism at Agios Pharmaceuticals (co-author of the second most cited article in Chemical Communications – ‘Fast atom bombardment of solids (F.A.B.): a new ion source for mass spectrometry’); and

• Ron Heeren – Head of Bio Imaging Mass Spectrometry (BIMS) Group at AMOLF in the Netherlands.
