Laboratory information management systems (LIMS) from Ocimum Biosolutions can now be purchased through a software as a service (SaaS) distribution model, the company has confirmed.
The move means the LIMS can be arranged for access over the internet, rather than being installed on-site, meaning no need for additional IT infrastructure to be installed in the
laboratories that use them.
Features available include biospecimen management with full genealogy of donor and patient, unlimited annotation using metadata, data and location management, and controlled vocabulary and synonyms.
Anu Acharya, chief executive officer of Ocimum Biosolutions, says: "We leveraged our biobanking domain expertise when designing our Biotracker Biobanking solution and now we have leveraged our IT expertise to make Biotracker Biobanking available as a hosted service over the internet."
The company adds that a SaaS model allows the LIMS used to scale to meet demand as a project progresses, rather than requiring a full investment to be made from the outset into IT infrastructure that is expected to provide the necessary capacity throughout.
