Porcine Detection Kits for Halal Food Testing & Screening
Mar 27 2013
PerkinElmer and PT Perkindo Mitra Analitika, PerkinElmer’s distributor in Indonesia, announced that they have signed an agreement with Lembaga Pengkajian Pangan, Obat-obatan dan Kosmetika Majelis Ulama Indonesia (LPPOM MUI), the leading Muslim clerical and Halal accreditation body in Indonesia, for the regulatory management and proper utilisation of porcine detection kits in Indonesia. Following a two year evaluation and collaboration period and as part of the new agreement, PerkinElmer will supply its porcine detection kits to the LPPOM MUI for Halal food compliance testing and screening.
Ensuring that food is Halal is an important issue in Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim country. However, the intricacies inherent across the global food supply chain can make guaranteeing Halal- food products a significant challenge. PerkinElmer’s porcine detection kits provide Halal-certifying agencies, contract laboratories and food manufacturers with a screening capability providing on-the-spot rapid characterisation of food products.
Designed for the fast detection of porcine meat traces, PerkinElmer’s porcine detection kits can provide a positive or negative result for the presence of porcine biomarkers in less than 15 minutes. Non-technical users are able to conduct the testing through a simple interface and minimal sample preparation. With detection limits of 0.5% for processed meat to 0.05% for raw meat, manufacturers now have an effective rapid screening tool for testing incoming raw ingredients to better ensure Halal integrity of final food products.
“The LPPOM MUI is an extremely respected body in Indonesia and their adoption of our porcine detection kit is a significant endorsement of the quality and reliability that our Halal food screening solution provides,” said Boon-Chun Tan, South Asia Pacific Environmental Marketing Director, PerkinElmer. “We look forward to helping food processors purchasing porcine-free ingredients with utmost confidence in their Halal products while providing consumers in Indonesia with better peace of mind that the food that they are consuming is porcine-free.”
