Game-based learning from PTI: A virtual world of possibilities

Jul 09 2015

Pharmaceutical Training International (PTI), a leading supplier of online and public event-based training courses for the pharma, biotech and medical device sectors, has expanded its new game-based learning platform into a fully customisable virtual learning environment.

In line with its ethos of creating bespoke training solutions, PTI will develop a 3D virtual world that reflects a client’s real world site or facilities and branding, allowing learners to interact with a familiar environment and each other. Organisations benefit from the complete integration of their own learning materials, saving costs by extending material lifetime and ensuring staff receive the most relevant and immediately actionable training possible – a new and unique offering for the (bio)pharma and medical device industries.

PTI is the first company to bring the innovative game-based interactive approach to training in the (bio)pharma and medical device sectors. Topics covered include business strategy, clinical, manufacturing, medical devices and diagnostics, R&D and regulatory affairs. Already used successfully in other sectors, the game-based learning approach enhances traditional training methods for personnel in the (bio)pharma and medical device industries, promoting friendly competition and providing motivation for staff to become more efficient, productive and knowledgeable.

In addition to the integration of learning materials, gamification through the development of tasks, quizzes and interactive scenarios by PTI’s experts ensures that a complete training solution is provided, and in a very cost-effective manner. Whether a member of staff is a new hire or an experienced professional looking to expand their skills and knowledge, the 3D environment enables them to learn in an engaging way, then apply their new skills in role-play with computer- and colleague-controlled avatars in the virtual world. Organisations additionally benefit from the ability to monitor employee progress throughout training, tracking how their skills develop in the longer term and receiving details analytics, allowing them to identify areas for future growth.

PTI’s Managing Director, Rosie Bernard, commented: “We aim to provide the very best training at PTI, and this customised approach permeates all levels of what we do. The development of this new and unique 3D game-based learning platform is a real step forward for training in the (bio)pharma and medical device industries. It very effectively enables staff to develop their skills by finding solutions to real and relevant problems, and is a very time- and cost-effective method to upskill a workforce.”
