Scientific Laboratory Supplies Ltd announced as preferred Public Sector Supplier

Jun 04 2014

Nottingham-based Scientific Laboratory Supplies Ltd (SLS), a large UK independent supplier of scientific equipment, chemicals and consumables has been confirmed as the single source distributor for the public sector Laboratory Consumables contract by UK Shared Business Services Ltd (UK SBS).

Under the contract, which SLS won ahead of two strong global competitor organisations, the company will manage the delivery of all consumable items to all participating public body organisations.

The company expects to recruit a minimum of 5 internal staff and 4 external support staff as a direct result of the contract win.

UK SBS is a key vehicle for meeting the challenge facing UK public services to increase efficiency, improve service quality and reduce operating costs. In helping its customers meet this challenge, UK SBS is supporting the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, its partner organisations and wider public sector to deliver ’more for less’. In the five years the organisation has been working with the UK Research Councils it has delivered over £100 million in savings through procurement alone.

Bob Mclaughlin, National Sales Manager at SLS commented: “We are naturally delighted to have been chosen by UK SBS as the sole supplier of laboratory consumables to its Customers. This award will enable us to expand the product range we currently supply and to build stronger relations with manufacturers wishing to supply goods into the public sector environment. As a result SLS will consolidate its position as the UKs largest independent distributor to laboratories in all business sectors here in the UK.”

Allyson Hughes, Senior Category Manager at UK SBS said: “We look forward to working with SLS to ensure our customers have access to the range and quality of product they want and need at a competitive price. Ensuring best value for our customers is vital to supporting the UK research sector to maintain its leading position globally”.
