SATO, a global leader in barcode printing, labelling, and EPC/RFID solutions, is providing its iCL4NX and CT4i printer series to GS1 Germany’s new knowledge centre in Cologne.  The centre, which opened on 1 July 2014, features live demonstrations of equipment, enabling visitors to learn about practical uses for the printers, particularly in the industrial and health care sectors.

“We are pleased to be able to contribute to the GS1 Germany knowledge centre with our printers,” says Detlev Müller, Managing Director of SATO Germany. “We regard progress, innovation and practicality as basic parts of our job and visitors to the centre can experience directly from the live demonstrations just how diverse and demanding the requirements on these printers can be.”

GS1 Germany is embarking on entirely new forms of interactive information transfer using practical learning experiences in realistic settings. “This is largely thanks to the sponsors and GS1 Germany solution providers – over 80 in total – who have contributed everything from ATMs to patient wristband printers to our extraordinary venue,” said Jörg Pretzel, Managing Director of GS1 Germany.

The live demonstrations include the SATO CT4i printers used in the health care sector to print patient wristbands which enable enable unique identification and assignment of patients, thereby improving patient safety by minimising errors in treatment and medicine administration.

Visitors to the knowledge centre can follow the course of treatment of a patient and see examples of where the printers work. The demonstrations comprise the entire process from medicine preparation and verification to patient admission to the hospital, treatment stages and documentation, and even include a realistic mock-up of a pharmacy where discharged patients can have their prescriptions filled. SATO printers additionally print medicine labels for this process.
