HORIBA SLFA-60 an Analyser Capable of Measuring High-Concentration Sulfur Content in Shale Oil
Oct 18 2017
Palaiseau, France, October 3rd, 2017. The SLFA-60 can determine the sulfur content of shale oil, conventional crude oil, and other petroleum products. It features a measurement range which is twice that of the model it is replacing. The portable design enables on-site measurement and analysis at drilling sites, pipelines, refineries, and other locations, saving both money and time when processing petroleum products.
Shale oil is attracting global attention as an alternative source of energy. Containing more impurities than conventional crude oil, the sulfur determination is a critical element of shale oil analysis. Thus, an increased demand is foreseen for measuring devices that can handle higher levels of interferents than conventional measuring equipment.
Petroleum products containing sulfur components are a proven source of hazardous sulfur oxide emissions. In order to control sulfur concentration in refined petroleum products, a catalytic chemical process (hydro-desulfurization) is used to remove sulfur compounds during refining. Knowing the starting concentration of sulfur is therefore critical to the proper operation of this specialized equipment. The SLFA-60 offers a rapid, inexpensive solution to this need.
