Automated Cell Counter System now Available

Aug 17 2017

Advanced Instruments’ GloCyte Automated Cell Counter System delivers highly accurate and precise counts of the total nucleated cells (TNCs) and red blood cells (RBCs) in cerebrospinal fluid samples using a novel combination of fluorescence and imaging technology, highly specific reagents, and a unique test cartridge that eliminates carryover.

The system is linear down to 0 cells/µL and has a limit of detection of 1 cell/µL for both RBC and TNC, an unprecedented detection level for an automated cell counter.

“With GloCyte, our turnaround time is faster and more consistent,” said John Baker, Core Laboratory Science & Technology Manager at MultiCare Health System Laboratories Northwest in Tacoma, Washington. “GloCyte removes the need for techs to classify red versus white cells. As a result, general medical technologists, not just haematology specialists can run the analyser. This is important as the number of med techs is declining.”

From Rouette Hunter, Haematology Laboratory Manager at Tufts Medical Centre in Boston, Massachusetts, “The highest cost of performing manual cell counts was the labour. Moving to a small benchtop CSF cell count analyser has allowed us to consolidate two workstations - urinalysis and cell counts - to one microscopy bench. Now we have one tech stationed at the bench instead of two.”

Additional benefits of the GloCyte System include a small sample size of only 30 microlitres per test, an automated cell detection system that minimises manual errors, and a built in quality control system that ensures accurate and repeatable results.
