New Dust Free C/S analyser for inorganic materials!

May 02 2018

HORIBA is the world leader in gas analysis. HORIBA detectors are extensively used in automotive (for exhaust gas control) and in environment.

The same detectors are at the heart of HORIBA Elemental Analysers – the series of EMIA & EMGA instruments - for measuring C/S N/O and or H in inorganic materials. The key elements these instruments permit to control cannot be measured by other techniques.

Based on proven technologies these are extremely robust instruments found in all industrial domains for the most demanding applications – measurement of low levels of C/S or N/O in steels, follow up of O in ceramics or in 3D printing materials, accurate measurement of low (sub ppm)levels of H in Ti alloys etc.

Even for proven technologies, innovations are possible and HORIBA holds several recent patents that lead to new generation of instruments with enhanced performance and ease of use.

For example in the new series of EMIA – models EMIA Pro and EMIA Expert – the combustion chamber and the gas flows have been totally modelised allowing now to propose for the first time instruments that do not require the use of vacuum cleaner between 2 measurements for cleaning the chamber.

At first, during analysis the flow carrying the gas to analyse (CO, CO2, SO2) is laminar and reverse to the O2 flow that is used for the combustion – this improves the combustion efficiency and prevents dust and perturbations to spread near the combustion tube.

When the analysis is finished a reverse flow of N2 is used efficiently cleaning the combustion chamber and directing all dust to a dust box located directly below the chamber. No vacuum cleaner is anymore required and up to 200 analysis can be conducted without any maintenance. This of course drastically reduce the total analysis time.
