True-to-Life - Olympus IVF Solutions

Jul 04 2018

Demand for assisted reproductive techniques in IVF is growing - one in six couples experience problems during their lifetime. Within a centrally important ICSI cycle, the ability to assess the maturation state of an oocyte and correctly align the spindle with the ICSI pipette can greatly increase chances of success. Olympus has developed a range of IVF solutions specifically designed to make this easy for embryologists with fast, true-to-life images at the microscope.

Direct and Fast Spindle Visualisation

Olympus improves the ICSI work by enabling spindle visualisation within seconds using an integrated and automated polarisation technique. Consequently the Olympus IX73-SLICSI system optimises the microscope setup for quick and clear spindle visualisation with just a simple push of a button. Seeing spindles directly enables clear metaphase II staging (identification of optimal conditions) and significantly enhances and improves the workflow itself. Directly visualising the location of spindles, which may be located away from the polar body, reduces the risk of accidentally damaging the spindle apparatus.

See More with Optical Quality

Working with oocytes and embryos requires the highest optical quality. Olympus Relief Contrast (ORC) objectives have been developed for this purpose and are continuously optimised by our experts. In addition, the semi-motorised IX73-SLICSI system always guarantees the best optical alignment so that manual objective changes, that carry a risk of misalignment, are no longer necessary.

Olympus Products for all Stages

Also for preICSI and postICSI workflows Olympus offers a variety of Life Science microscopes, such as the inverted IX73-SLICI microscope described above, zoom stereo microscopes for oocyte or embryo vitrification and cryopreservation, as well as upright microscopes for Gynaecology and Andrology. The extraordinary stability of the IX3 microscope together with the unique open source concept, ensure upgrade flexibility for frame-integrated magnification changers, 3rd party laser upgrades or even both at the same time.

Advanced Biopsies made Easier

Finally, direct and fast visualisation of spindles through the IX73-SLICSI microscope’s eyepieces simplifies even advanced biopsy work including Assisted Hatching, Trophectoderm Biopsy and Spindle biopsies for maternal (meiotic) spindle transfers (MST). This ensures that the treatment of fertility problems attributed to cytoplasmic defects in the oocyte can be made easier for the future.
