Monitoring Mercury Levels in the Environment with Laboratory and Process Instrumentation
Jun 05 2012
For over 25 years PSA has been at the forefront of environmental monitoring, developing atomic fluorescence instrumentation for both laboratory and process applications to determine mercury in its various species in gases, liquids and solids at ultra-low levels.
In the petrochemical industry particularly, reliable and accurate mercury measurements are vital, since failure to detect the presence of mercury, even at low levels, has in the past led to catastrophic failures in this industry. PSA instruments routinely provide relevant data to define reliable removal strategies and create a safer environment. The Company’s continuing research and development programme both in-house and with external groups including university departments, enables PSA to introduce new applications in laboratory and process situations.
PS Analytical has played an active part in the development of ISO/CEN standards for mercury measurements. In order to ensure the validity of the data recorded, PSA has developed a specific calibration device to ensure that data obtained is fundamentally correct and fit for purpose. Tailoring instrumentation to customer requirements enables systems to meet the local and international required safety standards for deployment in hazardous areas on site.
