Unique Time Saving Device for Maintaining Drosophila Stocks Launched

Scientific Laboratory Supplies (SLS) has agreed an exclusive arrangement to distribute the Drosoflipper fly tipping device in the UK and Ireland.
The device is revolutionary but incredibly simple. Rather than waste precious time transferring flies to fresh vials, one vial at a time, the Drosoflipper makes it possible to easily handle ten vials at once. The device accommodates ten standard narrow (25mm) vials with a rim and uses 30µm filters to replace traditional closures, such as cotton wool or foam plugs. This reusable device therefore reduces consumable wastage, saving money as well as time, whilst the narrow mesh acts as a barrier to mites and larvae.
Vials with flies are slotted onto one side of the device and incubated as normal. When it is time to transfer flies to fresh vials, the new vials are simply positioned on the opposing side of the Drosoflipper. A filter bypass is then used to enable the transfer of flies from the old vials to the new, before replacing the filters once again in one quick and easy step.
