Modular Monitoring System Provides Fully Bespoke Waste and Industrial Water Monitoring

Nov 14 2017

Flood and pollution prevention specialists, Detectronic, have launched a brand new modular flow and quality monitoring system which utilises multiple measurement technologies.

The ORAKEL System incorporates a highly versatile control and display unit which can accommodate up to 16 sensors to measure different flow and quality characteristics and so create a fully bespoke solution for wastewater and industrial water monitoring environments.

Explains Steve Woods, managing director of Detectronic: “Our new ORAKEL System is the result of a two-year, bespoke R&D programme designed to further enhance our existing range of monitoring equipment. ORAKEL represents the ultimate solution for level, flow and quality measurement in water and wastewater applications.

“From a flow and level perspective, the ORAKEL System can be configured for numerous different measurement and monitoring requirements using specific sensor combinations. These include: Submerged Area/Velocity Flow – ideal for partially-full pipes and smaller channels in water, wastewater and trade effluent applications, Non-Contact Area Velocity Flow – for use in a wastewater to trade effluent open channel environment with aggressive media, Primary Device – this method is utilised in open channels using a variety of flumes or weirs (for smaller flowrates) making it highly effective for a wide range of applications, Transit/Time of Flight (ToF) - to deliver non-invasive flow measurement by accurately measuring flow velocity in closed/full-pipe systems - eliminating the need to cut into existing pipework.

Continues Steve: “At the same time, water quality sensors can also be incorporated to measure pH, turbidity, dissolved oxygen levels and many more indicators that companies must evidence in order to correctly address their disposal charges and meet specific obligations under the Integrated Pollution Prevention & Control (IPPC) Directive.

“The versatility of ORAKEL ToF enables flow measurement of almost any fluid containing less than 10% solids or gas including water, oils, petrochemicals and alcohol giving it the potential to be used in a wide variety of industrial and commercial sectors and environments.”

The innovative ORAKEL System is managed from an intuitive menu-system with integrated database, on-screen wiring diagrams, control algorithms and built in parameters, making it simple to configure.

Adds Steve “The ORAKEL is a top of the range system at a very competitive price point. It also offers optional communications packages that facilitate local connection via Profibus, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP and others.

“In addition, direct connections to Detectronic’s range of GSM data loggers allows remote visibility of data streams via secure website allowing report generation and analysis by our customers or by Detectronic’s experienced analysts on behalf of our customers.”
