Floating in Process Measurement Technology

Dec 26 2012

The BGN/BGF float type flowmeters of KOBOLD Messring GmbH (Germany), make reliable flow measurement of liquids and gases possible, even for arduous applications. These very robust all-metal devices, available in measuring ranges from 0.5 l/h to 130,000 l/h offer an enormous application spectrum, even in conditions of high pressure and temperature. The current measurement value is transferred to the clearly legible display by means of magnets without contact, and without a risk of disconnection.

It’s special design, employs a measuring ring and conical float, eliminating the need for a traditional guide rod, which confers tremendous advantages. The float has almost no friction loss, and the danger of contamination jamming the float, is greatly reduced. A linear characteristic curve also results from the optimised float form.

In addition to the usual vertical type of installation (flow from bottom to the top), the type BGF measuring devices offer the possibility of horizontal installation or vertical flow from top to bottom. The devices can be specified with a spring stop and attenuation. This buffers dangerous pressure spikes and prevents annoying indicator flutter.

Customer-specific production of the devices makes it possible to use a great variety of media-contact materials like various stainless steels, Hastelloy, PTFE, and titanium. Pipe sizes up to DN150 mean that the occasions where the flow has to be split between two smaller flowmeters, is reduced. Naturally, nearly all process connections are available. The measuring devices can optionally be equipped with differential pressure regulator, backflow stop, idle capability, heating, and double eddy-current damping.

Various transducers are available for the evaluation of the measurement results. In addition to the 4-20 mA output signal, NAMUR-contacts and HART-protocol, as well as Profibus-PA can be selected. There is also a design with a totaliser.
