Combined density and sound velocity measurement – fast, safe, reliable
Aug 28 2008
The density and sound velocity characteristics of sulfiric acid/oleum over the concentration range of 0 % to 114 % H2SO4 and 0 % to 65 % free SO3 (oleum) show that in some ranges the concentration can be determined from the density result. And in other ranges, the concentration can be determined from the sound velocity result. Based on these findings, the measuring method âSulf & Oleumâ has been defined, allowing the fast and accurate determination of sulfuric acid and oleum samples of any concentration.
The Anton Paar DSA 5000 Sulfuric Acid Analyzer uses an efficient method for concentration determination of sulfuric acid and oleum, combining two physical properties: density and sound velocity.
Minimum costs, optimum output
A small volume of an approximately 3 mL sample, without any sample preparation required, is easily filled into the DSA 5000 using a glass syringe or via a peristaltic pump. As no other reagent solutions are necessary, the sample remains unaltered, reducing the costs for waste disposal.
The automated measuring procedure is highly reliable, ruling out operating errors that are possible with e.g. titration. A measurement takes only three minutes.
Commonly, a measuring temperature of 20 °C is set for sulfuric acid samples, and 40 °C for oleum samples. The temperature is exactly controlled by an integrated Peltier thermostat.
The conversion to concentration units is automatically carried out referring to a PC.
The DSA 5000 has a rugged construction, requires only small space in the lab and can also be operated on the production floor.
Unique product quality ensured
The DSA 5000 Sulfuric Acid Analyzer provides you with measuring results unmatched in accuracy, independent of the operator; and it enables you to optimize product quality immediately.
