Special attention is needed when it comes to cleaning the measurement cell and tubing of oscillation type density meters after the measurement of viscous or otherwise hard to remove samples. In addition to liquid cleaning operations that use solvents such as water and ethanol, Kyoto Electronics Manufacturing's DA-800 series of density meters also employ a ‘Purge’ operation, that helps evacuate sample matter from the cell and tubing by directing air through the system. This Purge function is very useful in a number of scenarios.
Viscous and otherwise hard to clean samples are difficult to remove with a single cycle of liquid cleansing, requiring extra time and solvent for their full discharge. You can decrease this time by using the Purge function following measurement to expel sample from the system in preparation for cleansing with solvent. This will also help you to reduce the amount of solvent you use, benefiting the environment and your wallet alike.
In some applications, it is desirable to perform post-measurement cleaning using sample liquid instead of solvent cleansers. In doing so though, you risk contaminating your next measurement specimen with that of the sample liquid used for washing. Using the Purge function following the liquid clean in this scenario will virtually eliminate the risk for contamination.
Kyoto Electronics Manufacturing's DA-800 Density Meter family will save you precious time and money, so that your laboratory can operate with higher efficiency.
