Scientifica were presented with their Queen’s Award for Enterprise by Peter Field, the Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex on September 4th.

It is the second Innovation Award for the Uckfield-based company, received for its Multiphoton Imaging System, designed specifically with neuroscience in mind. Other attendees included Colin Beasley (Chairman of East Sussex County Council), Barby Dashwood-Morris (Vice-chairman of Wealden District Council), Ian Smith (Mayor of Uckfield), Fiona Monson (President of Uckfield Chamber of Commerce) and Nusrat Ghani (Wealden Conservative candidate for the 2015 General Election).

The presentation followed a trip by Scientifica’s senior management team to a special reception at Buckingham Palace in July.

The Multiphoton System incorporates technologies for producing high resolution images of cellular structures and activity within thick tissue samples and living organisms. With products use in more than 30 countries around the world, exports account for more than 70% of the company’s turnover.

Over the last three years the company has doubled its turnover and its staff numbers, employing more than 50 at its headquarters in Uckfield and 25 at its factory in Maidenhead.

Managing Director, Mark Johnson, said: It’s great to have our flagship product recognised with such a prestigious award. We all enjoyed the presentation and it was a great chance for the staff to celebrate this wonderful achievement. We have been developing the multiphoton system for five years now and sold our first system to Oxford University in 2011. Since then sales have grown exponentially to the point where it has become a major driver to the company’s increasing success.”
