Scientifica, manufacturers of specialist electrophysiology and imaging equipment, has won a Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation 2014 for the design and development of its flagship Multiphoton Imaging System which has contributed to biomedical research around the world while increasing the company’s export sales.

“This is a really significant achievement to have our flagship product recognised with such a prestigious award. It will give a massive boost to all our staff, suppliers and customers, and will undoubtedly contribute to our continuing success as a British manufacturer and exporter of high precision scientific equipment,” said Mark Johnson, Managing Director.

Designed for integration of electrophysiology and multiphoton imaging the system produces high resolution images of cellular structures deep within thick tissue samples using super-sensitive photo-multipliers and GaAsP detectors. The pulsed femtosecond infra-red laser penetrates tissue with minimal damage, capturing images deep within samples. It comes with the company’s own open source software which allows researchers the freedom to customise their set up for future research requirements.

“Our success is due to a number of factors. We’ve found that building relationships with customers is key to our success. The majority of our sales team are scientists themselves, so they are well placed to understand our clients’ requirements. Also, compared with using alternative systems, researchers using the Scientifica system benefit from lower experimental costs and reduced space requirements.” Mark Johnson added.”

"We wished to develop something special which suits the needs of researchers carrying out 2 Photon imaging. The collaboration between our designers and customers allowed us to develop a fantastic system which we are very proud of,” said Matt Kemp, Sales and Marketing Director.
