New High-capacity Headspace Sampler -XL Tray

May 02 2023

Agilent Technologies Inc has unveiled an upgraded version of the Agilent 8697 Headspace Sampler, featuring a 120-vial capacity tray, a significant increase from its predecessor's 48 vial capacity. This new sampler also boasts enhanced instrument intelligence capabilities, improving its uptime and making it more user-friendly for operators. The Agilent 8697 -XL Tray and the 8697 offer advanced features that outperform the 7697A Headspace Sampler.

“Labs that run headspace GC systems know that if they encounter problems during a sequence, and the vials are punctured, they may have to rerun or recollect samples. The 8697 and now the 8697 Headspace Sampler -XL Tray virtually eliminate that problem. The complete GC headspace system checks to ensure that the system and data quality are up to SOP standards, avoiding recollection of samples and reruns,” explained Mike Zhang, Vice President and General Manager of Agilent’s Gas Phase Separations Division.

Equipped with advanced instrument intelligence, the 8697 Headspace Sampler -XL Tray eliminates downtime and enhances productivity by continuously monitoring its operation and guiding operators through various troubleshooting and maintenance procedures. The system performs automated checks such as leak checks, early maintenance feedback (EMF), and self-diagnostics, ensuring the system is primed for use. Furthermore, the system verifies the quality of control samples, guaranteeing the highest level of data accuracy and eliminating the need for sample reruns. All of these steps are presented in a step-by-step format on the GC touch screen, making it easy for operators to follow.

Transitioning to the new high-capacity 8697 Headspace Sampler -XL Tray is seamless and straightforward, with no need for method redevelopment or modifications to existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) from previous models such as the 7697A or the 8697 Headspace Sampler. The sampler also provides increased method flexibility, allowing for the use of alternate carrier gases thanks to the separation of vial pressurization and sample loop.

“We are excited to add the 8697 Headspace Sampler -XL Tray to our growing portfolio of intelligent instruments. With full integration into the GC intelligence ecosystem, the 8697 Headspace Sampler -XL Tray communicates directly with the GC to optimise operation and ensure maximum uptime,” added Jim Gearing, Associate Vice President of Mmarketing in Agilent’s Gas Phase Separations Division.
