Company news
Exciting Instruments has opened its new £4 million headquarters and laboratories in Sheffield’s Innovation Spine, marking a major step in its rapid growth and global ambitions in single-molecule fluorescence spectroscopy.
The state-of-the-art facility brings together the company’s UK science, engineering, and commercial teams under one roof, featuring modern offices and two custom-built laboratories designed to accelerate the development of its unique single-molecule detection systems.
“This new facility is a watershed moment for us,” said Robert Bell, COO and Co-Founder. “It’s built for collaboration and rapid development, giving our teams the infrastructure to deliver transformative tools for life science innovators worldwide.”
The expansion follows a successful £4 million seed funding round and strategic support from the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA), reinforcing both the company’s global ambitions and its commitment to the local innovation ecosystem. South Yorkshire Mayor Oliver Coppard officially opened the site, joined by key investors, customers, and regional innovation leaders.
Dr Tim Craggs, CEO and Founder, added: “We’re proud to grow our roots in South Yorkshire while building a global future. This HQ gives us the space and resources to scale rapidly and bring precision single-molecule tools into everyday life science laboratories.”
Exciting Instruments develops advanced instruments that enable researchers to detect and analyse individual molecules, observe their structures, and track interactions, supporting breakthroughs in biology, drug discovery, and diagnostics. The new Sheffield headquarters exemplifies the company’s mission to make these tools accessible, reliable, and widely usable.
