Integra Biosciences is proud to continue its partnership with CleanHub, driving meaningful action against plastic pollution before it reaches the world’s oceans. Thanks to Integra’s support, CleanHub and its local partners have collected over 21.5 million kilograms of plastic from coastal communities in developing countries, keeping it out of marine ecosystems.
Globally, access to waste management is limited, with more than 2 billion people lacking the means to recycle plastic. This results in the equivalent of one garbage truck of plastic entering the ocean every minute, threatening marine life and, indirectly, human health, as microplastics can enter the food chain.
CleanHub tackles the problem at its source. Its networks now reach over 2.5 million households, where plastics are sorted: recyclable materials are processed locally, while non-recyclable waste is safely converted into energy in industrial facilities such as cement plants. This approach not only protects the oceans but also supports communities by creating stable, fairly paid jobs in waste management and encouraging long-term responsible disposal habits.
Dr Ursula Leuthold, Sustainability Coordinator at Integra Biosciences, commented:
"Sustainability is central to everything we do, making CleanHub a natural partner. In 2025 alone, our contributions have helped collect over 8.2 million kilograms of plastic waste from communities and waterways. We are proud to help CleanHub safeguard our oceans and build resilient, environmentally responsible communities."
