Lonza has launched a new Media Development Lab at its Tuas site in Singapore, aimed at helping biopharma developers better optimise cell culture media and reduce risks during scale-up to GMP manufacturing.
The new service is designed to address a growing challenge in bioprocessing, where tighter development timelines and increasing process complexity can make late-stage reformulation costly and difficult. By focusing on early-stage media optimisation, the lab supports more predictable and scalable manufacturing outcomes.
Using structured approaches such as Design of Experiments, the facility evaluates multiple formulation variables in parallel to identify key drivers of performance. This enables more robust media designs that can transition smoothly from laboratory development into industrial production.
Lonza integrates its proprietary media and feed libraries with manufacturability insights to help customers refine formulations earlier in the development cycle. The aim is to reduce unnecessary iteration, improve process consistency, and strengthen readiness for GMP production.
Michael Goetter, Head of Bioscience, Specialized Modalities, Lonza, commented: "We are committed to helping customers reduce early-stage risk and select media formulations that are effective at laboratory scale and reliable in manufacturing. Our new Media Development Lab supports customers at the front end of their programs, shaping formulation strategy and creating a pathway from non-GMP to GMP manufacturing.”
The service is now available at Lonza’s Singapore bioscience site.
