SpinChem AB is expanding its global footprint into India’s rapidly growing pharmaceutical sector through a strategic partnership with Smart Labtech Private Ltd. The collaboration brings SpinChem’s rotating bed reactor (RBR) technology, already deployed in over 40 countries, to one of the world’s fastest-expanding pharmaceutical markets.
“India represents a major opportunity for SpinChem,” said Dr Emil Byström, CEO. “The combination of fast industry growth and rising demand for scalable biocatalysis makes this the perfect time to introduce our RBR technology.”
India, currently the world’s third-largest producer of pharmaceuticals and responsible for around 20% of global generic medicines, has a market valued at US$55 billion - projected to more than double to US$120–130 billion by 2030.
The partnership ensures SpinChem can provide local technical support, application guidance, and scale-up solutions to Indian pharmaceutical companies and research organisations. “Our rotating bed reactors meet a real need in India’s pharma and chemical sectors,” added Mr Satya Prasad, CEO of Smart Labtech. “Laboratory innovations can now be translated efficiently into production-scale processes.”
This collaboration also aligns with the EU–India Free Trade Agreement, which took effect in January 2026, facilitating smoother technology transfer and industrial partnerships. “The agreement strengthens European–Indian cooperation,” says Tove Näsman, SpinChem Business Manager. “Our partnership exemplifies Sweden’s ‘Made with Sweden’ approach - true collaboration rather than simple export.”
