Various options available for In-Line mixing at Laboratory-scale from Silverson Machines

07 Oct, 2026

Silverson Laboratory mixers are used for a variety of mixing processes from simple liquid/liquid blending, forming emulsions and reducing particle size to more complex mixing applications. They are ideal for all routine laboratory work, research and development, QA analysis and small scale production. As well as ‘in-tank’ models, Silverson offers a comprehensive range of In-Line Laboratory scale mixers which are used across a range of industries.

The standard ‘in-tank’ L5M-A High Shear laboratory mixer can be supplied with an In-Line mixing assembly, converting the L5 mixer to an In-Line mixer/homogeniser with a throughput of approximately 20 litres/minute.

Where higher throughput or a designated In-Line laboratory unit is required, Silverson has designed the Verso. The Silverson Verso is a bench top In-Line mixer which can be supplied with a vessel package to replicate a recirculation process at pilot scale. The unit offers excellent reproducibility when scaling up and provides an accurate and easy means of forecasting the performance of larger In-Line mixers under full-scale working conditions.

The Verso is equipped with a digital tachometer, ammeter and programmable timer, invaluable for applications where process validation and reproducibility are required. It is also compatible with the Silverson “DataLogger” program.

In addition to the standard model, the Verso range includes two additional models:

Verso UHS: An Ultra-Hygienic version of the standard model. Crafted for stringent applications in the Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, Food, Cosmetics, and other clean industries. It upholds the highest sanitary standards to ensure product integrity.

Verso-UHS-HV: The Verso-UHS-HV is ideal for mixing high viscosity products. It incorporates the same unique and innovative ‘pumping rotor’ design as the production scale UHS-HV In-Line mixers. This substantially increases its self-pumping capacity, allowing it to process products such as gels, creams, sauces and gum solutions on a laboratory scale.

For rapid and effective dispersion and incorporation of powders into liquids at the laboratory scale, Silverson offers the FMX5 laboratory powder/liquid mixer. It is a simple, effective and hygienic means of powder/liquid mixing, creating uniform mixtures and streamlining formulation development. The unit is suitable for small scale manufacturing and R&D work with a typical batch size of up to 10 litres, depending on viscosity.

Silverson offers the largest range of capacities from a single manufacturer - from 1ml laboratory units up to some of the largest disintegrator systems on the market - and because all Silverson mixers are manufactured to the same precision-engineered tolerances anything you produce in the laboratory can be replicated in production and scalable results are achievable across the entire product range, without the need for reformulating.

If you’d be interested in trialling a laboratory mixer for your application, or you’d like more information, get in touch with Silverson today. Whether you are processing 1ml or mixing batches of 50 litres, whatever your application, you’ll be sure to find a mixer to suit your needs.
