The 30 minute rule provides simple guidance for allowing un-used blood bags to be returned to storage, but opens up the risk of needless discarding of bags which may not have breached the +10°C threshold.

Blood Temp 10 is designed to offer a simple, easy-to-use and accurate solution by monitoring the core temperature of the blood bag and irreversibly highlighting any breaches above +10°C by changing colour of the indicator window. If the indicator window remains white even after 30 minutes, the blood may be safely reissued potentially saving significant blood losses.
