New appointment aims to scale global R&D sample storage

14 May, 2025

Astoriom has announced the appointment of Ryan Smith as its new Global Head of Sales, as the company accelerates expansion of its sample stability and biorepository services across Europe and North America.

Smith brings over 20 years of commercial leadership in the life sciences sector, with a background spanning automated sample storage, cryogenic equipment, and outsourced biorepository solutions. His career includes senior roles at Azenta Life Sciences and earlier positions with Agilent/Keysight Technologies and RHK Technologies, where he helped scale global operations serving biopharma and academic research clients.

In his new role, Smith will oversee the global sales strategy for Astoriom’s expanding portfolio - ranging from stability storage and disaster recovery services to sample management systems and regulatory validation. His appointment signals a decisive phase in Astoriom’s growth, particularly in response to the rising demand for secure, compliant, and scalable sample storage infrastructure.

“Joining Astoriom at such a dynamic point in its journey is a rare opportunity,” Smith said. “I’m excited to help drive the commercial strategy and ensure that we continue to support our customers in preserving the integrity of their scientific assets - especially in a regulatory landscape that’s constantly evolving.”

Astoriom CEO Lori A. Ball called the appointment a ‘pivotal moment’ in the company’s expansion. “Ryan’s deep knowledge of specimen management and regulatory frameworks, combined with his track record of delivering commercial growth, makes him a perfect fit for our global ambitions,” she said.

With operations scaling rapidly on both sides of the Atlantic, Astoriom is positioning itself as a critical partner to scientists and R&D teams navigating increasingly complex storage and compliance needs.
