HPLC Columns – Packed by the Sorbent Manufacturer

Mar 07 2016

MACHEREY-NAGEL, sorbent manufacturer for chromatography, developed the HPLC sorbent NUCLEOSIL® more than 40 years ago. It was one of the first spherical type A silicas and is still manufactured by MACHEREY-NAGEL in Germany. For nearly 15 years, they have supplemented their successful NUCLEOSIL® product range with the fully synthetical type B silica NUCLEODUR® – a state-of-the-art silica for professional solutions. With NUCLEOSHELL® core-shell particle technology MACHEREY-NAGEL introduced a superficially porous silica for highest efficiency in HPLC.

NUCLEOSIL® is still one of the most frequently used HPLC silicas in quality control around the globe – often applied in validated methods. It comes in numerous different modifications, particle and pore sizes. Manufacturer-packed HPLC columns are available with nonpolar RP phases (e.g., C18, C18 HD, C8, C6H5) and polar phases (e.g., CN, NH2, SA, SB, SiOH), specified with small pore sizes of 50, 100 and 120 Å as well as with wide pore sizes of 300, 500, 1000, and 4000 Å. Phases with particle sizes of 3, 5, 7, and 10 µm can be selected in relation to the application. Further information on www.mn-net.com/NUCLEOSIL.

The totally spherical silica NUCLEODUR® is the ideal base material for modern HPLC phases. Several different surface modifications have been developed over the last years providing a full range of specified HPLC phases (e.g., C8 and C18 Gravity, C18 Isis, C18 Pyramid, PolarTec, Phenyl-Hexyl, Sphinx RP, PFP, HILIC). The recently launched NUCLEODUR® C18 Gravity-SB features hydrophobic and polar selectivity. Thus, it provides better retention of early eluting analytes. Furthermore, it is well-suitable for LC-MS due to the low bleeding behavior. HPLC columns packed with NUCLEODUR® phases are available with pore sizes of 1.8 µm (UHPLC), 3 and 5 µm (analytical HPLC) as well as > 10 µm (preparative HPLC). Demands for HPLC separations are constantly increasing with respect to separation efficiency, detection limits, and time requirements for each analysis. Core-shell technology sets new standards for analyses in research and quality control. For this new technology MACHEREY-NAGEL offers HPLC columns packed with highly efficient NUCLEOSHELL® core-shell particles. Besides the C18 modifications RP 18 and RP 18plus, innovative chemistries such as Phenyl-Hexyl, PFP, and HILIC are applied. More information on www.mn-net.com/NUCLEOSHELL.

MACHEREY-NAGEL does not only have many years of experience, they also control the complete manufacturing process of the original NUCLEOSIL®, NUCLEODUR® and NUCLEOSHELL® columns.
