Carbolite Gero launches specialist decarboxylation oven

Apr 06 2021

The new PF460 Oven from Carbolite Gero is designed for drying and the decarboxylation of cannabis.

This quality solution has been designed and manufactured to exacting CSA/UL compliant standards by the team in Hope, Derbyshire. The oven configuration and specification are based on extensive feedback from pharmaceutical companies and key industry figures. As the sector grows and gains further global acceptance, demand for production solutions from the pharmaceutical sector (and recreational use producers) is rising rapidly while laws, specifications and regulations continue to evolve with the science.

The Carbolite Gero PF460 oven can operate up to 200°C and allows a customer to switch between optimum drying temperatures and decarboxylation. This is the chemical process achieved by heating a substance to remove a carboxyl group as cannabis naturally contains tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA). This can be converted into the psychoactive tetrahydrocannabinol molecule (THC) via decarboxylation which is essential for pharmaceutical and recreational cannabis manufacture.

The PF460 oven features two large air recirculation fans that help to both maintain temperature uniformity and extract moisture from inside the chamber; manual air inlet and outlet dampers enable the customer to adjust the air flow as required. Fitted as standard with four grilled shelves, the oven has provision for up to 13 shelves, enabling the customer to maximise throughput and take full advantage of the generous 460 litre capacity.

The PF460 oven ships as standard with a 3016 digital PID temperature controller and over-temperature protection. However, it can also be purchased and configured with a Carbolite Gero CC-T1 touch screen controller / recorder which is simple to operate and programmable. A humidity indicator option allows the operator to monitor conditions within the oven chamber, and an ethernet port is fitted at the rear of the control box for remote monitoring. A range of other options, including an exhaust fan for moisture removal and a nitrogen gas system can also be specified.

This is the first official solution from Carbolite Gero for the burgeoning medicinal and recreational cannabis industry which is flourishing in the USA & Canada. In fact, the market is predicted to reach US $40 billion in 2025 and already 31 States have already legalized cannabis for medicinal use and 9 of those for recreational use.

The Carbolite Gero PF460 oven compliments products from Retsch, another Verder Scientific company.  Their SM 400 Cutting Mill is used for the pre-cutting of dried hemp plants while their MM 400 Mixer Mill allows rapid pulverization of 8 sample buds to extract THC / CBDs and for those involved in small-scale production the 316L food-grade SM 300 Cutting Mill is a perfect solution. Finally, Microtrac MRB particle size analysis solutions measure quality and uniformity of the dried powder ensuring a consistent and effective product.
