Powtech 2010 saw the launch of the Hosokawa`s Granulyser Type EGT 100/25 - a unique concept laboratory machine designed specifically to provide a standard and repeatable test method to predict the

strength and behaviour of granule. This is vital today as many products are in granular form.By replicating the shear, impact and abrasion forces acting upon granules in simulated industrial production plant conditions granule performance can be studied in detail enabling informed decisions to be taken on further processing steps.

Developed jointly between Hosokawa Micron Ltd, Hosokawa Bepex and The Enzyme Dust Consortium, the Granulyser is highly portable and compact. The Granulyser gives reliable repeatable results every time,

it is operator friendly and is easy to dismantle and clean as removable parts can be placed in a dishwasher to clean.

The device consists of two rotating rollers to apply shear deformation, a pneumatic conveying line with two bends to induce particle impact and a dust separation column for dust particle entrainment. Airborne dust is collected using a filter unit for Whatman GFC and particle loading and unloading is simply achieved with a cartridge complete with slide valves.

Test parameters such as granule speed, impact angles and residence time can all be controlled with the Hosokawa Granulyser to create specific production conditions. Analysis of the data collected provides valuable information for decisions on processing improvements, equipment selection as well as set up and handling and final packing operations.
