Invitrogen has announced that it has received the prestigious AmeriStar® Package Award from the Institute of Packaging Professionals for its new GIBCO cell culture bottle. Invitrogen launched the redesigned GIBCO bottle in October of last year to offer scientists improved ease of use, more efficient storage and reduced sample contamination for cell culture experiments.

The new bottle is the result of three years of collaborative research and development – that involved testing more than 30 prototypes – between Invitrogen, global design consultancy IDEO and container manufacturer Graham Packaging Plastics, which helped develop the manufacturing plan for the innovative bottle design. The end result was a redesigned bottle that provides improved ergonomics for ‘under-the-hood’ workflow,

superior handling and storage, easier identification and additional space for supplements.

AmeriStar evaluated more than 100 packages in 15 different categories, with the GIBCO bottle receiving honours in the medical device category. A formal awards ceremony will take place on May the 19th, as part of the IoPP Annual Packaging Summit in Chicago.
