Lab M is adding Modified Giolitti and Cantoni Broth (ISO) to its rapidly expanding range of dehydrated culture media formulated to meet the specific ISO requirements of the food industry.
Modified Giolitti and Cantoni Broth (ISO) is used for the enumeration and detection of coagulase-positive staphylococci, both Staphylococcus aureus and other species, from food and animal feeding stuffs using the most probable number technique according to ISO 6888-3:2003. The growth of staphylococci is promoted by the presence of pyruvate, glycine and mannitol. Bacteria other than staphylococci are inhibited by the presence of lithium chloride, glycine and tellurite. The reduction of tellurite by staphylococci results in blackening of the media and provides a presumptive identification for the presence of these organisms. The media is incubated under anaerobic conditions that create additional selectivity, this can be achieved through the use of an agar/paraffin plug on the surface or incubation in an appropriate anaerobic environment depending upon the testing regime employed.
Following Lab Mâs recent launch of Baird-Parker Medium Base (ISO), the addition of Modified Giolitti and Cantoni Broth (ISO) to the companyâs range enables users to purchase from one source all requirements for testing for coagulase positive staphylococci in accordance with ISO 6888-3:2003
