Metachem Diagnostics are delighted to announce the availability of the InPouchTM TV (Trichomonas Vaginalis), the system for sample collection, transport and culture device that allows for the simultaneous growth and observation of the parasite that is responsible for the sexually transmitted infection.  Trichomonas vaginalis is a flagellated parasitic protozoan and the cause of the STI trichomonas in humans.  T. vaginalis is the most common non-viral STI globally. Infection rates are relatively the same for between men and women and there are an estimated 7.4 million new cases each year.  According to the WHO the presence of untreated Trichomonas infection increases the probability of the acquisition and transmission of HIV by a factor of ten.  In the USA the InPouchTM TV is classified as the “Gold Standard”

By combining several procedures in a single device the InPouchTM system allows immediate “wet mount” microscopic observation that can be followed by culture.  Best practice suggests specimens should be observed every 24 hours for up to 5 days.  Inoculated InPouchTM TV medium can be held up to 48 hours at room temperature before incubation at 370 C hence the system can be used in off-site locations.  The medium inhibits the growth of yeasts, mould, bacteria and other commensal microflora.

The InPouchTM is also available for  Tritrichomonas Foetus  bovine and Tritrichomonas Foetus-Feline.
