New Titration Algorithm makes Titration Faster

Mar 08 2018

Can you really reduce the time your titrations take? Yes, with OMNIS you can, and Metrohm can actually prove it. For the OMNIS Titrator Metrohm optimised the titration algorithm in order to increase efficiency by reducing the titration time.

To prove this gain in time, the titration times were compared for various samples and titration modes between a 907 Titrando and an OMNIS Titrator. Among the titrations performed were such common ones as: back titration of aluminium with EDTA; redox titration of sodium thiosulphate and orange juice with iodine; two-phase titration of anionic surfactants in hand soap.

On average, the OMNIS Titrator outperformed the 907 Titrando for a back titration of aluminium in a 1.4 mL sample by 52 seconds per sample. This may sound not much but scale this up in proportion and it becomes evident that you save more than 1 hour per 100 samples. Even more striking, for a redox titration of an 9 mL standard solution, you save more than 2 hours per 100 titrations with OMNIS compared to a 907 Titrando. The most remarkable time savings though can be observed for the two-phase titration of anionic surfactants in hand soap, where the time save per titration is approximately 3 minutes. This amounts to over 5 hours per 100 titrations.
