OEM Pumps For Liquid Filling Machines

Apr 06 2021

Wide range of flow rates perfect for accurate and repeatable fluid dispensing including shear sensitive media.

Liquid filling machines are used to fill packaging containers with a fixed amount of liquid. They can be classified into three types depending on their methodology; vacuum filling machines, pressurised filling machines and atmospheric pressure filling machines. Sub-division can be based on their motion; linear or rotary, plus there are variations dependent upon whether they are single- or multi-head. This array of solutions allows them to serve a wide range of applications from the food & beverage industry (milk, juice or water) through pharmaceuticals (sterile fluids, medicines, vaccines) cosmetics (skin care liquids, detergents, sanitisers) to even the chemical industry (corrosives, abrasives and irritants).

In general there are ten core requirements for a pump solution :

  • Variable filling volume
  • High filling accuracy
  • High filling efficiency
  • No contamination
  • Stability and reliability
  • Suitable for abrasive liquid with particles
  • Suitable for corrosive liquid
  • Suitable for shear-sensitive substances
  • Good breakoff and no droplet generation
  • Easy for the operator to use and low maintenance

Longer Peristaltic Pumps have a wide range of flow rates that can easily be controlled. Repeatable dispensing accuracy is achieved by precise speed control and calibration. The low shear and gentle pumping action ensures that biological substances will not be damaged during transfer. Because of the mechanical set-up, the fluid only comes into contact with the bore of the tubing thus eliminating the risk of contamination between the pump and fluids. As mentioned above, a peristaltic pump together with the selection of the correct tubing can be used to transfer, dose or fill corrosive and/or abrasive fluids. In line with the variability of the applications, the Dispensing &Filling System can be configured between 4 to 32 peristaltic pump heads, to achieve fill volumes of between 0.2ml/s and 48ml/s with a dispensing accuracy of up to ±0.5%. The back suction function eliminates droplet formation during the filling process.

Of greater importance, however, is the value that customers obtain from these technical features.

  • High precision filling and repeatability help to maximise productivity and profitability
  • The elimination of a contamination risk during the filling process ensures that the pump does not contaminate the product, nor does the product contaminate the pump.
  • The tubing can be changed simply thereby providing easy and fast product change with no cross-contamination.
  • The low shear and gentle pumping action of peristaltic pumps eliminates product damage thereby increasing product integrity and overall yield.
  • This gentle pumping action is ideal for semisolids, heterogeneous mixtures and for liquids with particles. The selection of tubing with increased abrasion resistance reduces the frequency of tube replacement – which in itself is quick and easy – with a corresponding decrease in down-time. The pump itself is not in contact with the media so maintenance and repair is eliminated.
  • For the special products, special filling volume or special operational requirements, Longer dispensing and filling systems can be tailor-made to meet each customers’ needs.
