Doummar’s family business started in 1988 when Eng. Antoun Doummar, who was a chemistry teacher at Damascus University decided with his wife Mrs. Jinan Bakarji, to establish a small office in Damascus to supply laboratories with chemicals, glassware and equipment, and named the company "ALBA Instruments & Chemicals".

In 1992 they moved to a bigger office close to the city center and since 1994 became the exclusive distributor in Syria of famous companies like: WATERS, CAMAG, DANI & BOECO.

Their elder son Eng. Elias joined ALBA in 2001 and became responsible for installation, training and service. Then in 2004, the two younger sons Firas and Louay joined the company and enhanced its potentials and capabilities which motivated Eng. Antoun Doummar to extend the business and turn his lifelong dream into reality by creating Doummar & Sons Company, his own fine chemicals factory which was the first of it’s kind in the Arab world.

After three years of building, installation of most advanced equipment in production and quality control, acquiring knowledge and conducting experiments, the Doummar & Sons products were finally launched with the brand name "SHAMLAB" in June 2008.

By the end of 2009 SHAMLAB`s products were covering 90% of the Syrian laboratory chemicals market. In March 2010 Doummar & Sons succeeded to get its first export order to Egypt followed by several orders from other Arab countries and start extending their worldwide activity.
