Shimadzu unveils Nexera IC for streamlined water testing

18 Jun, 2026

Shimadzu has launched the Nexera IC ion chromatograph, a compact system designed to simplify water quality analysis while delivering high levels of accuracy and consistency.

Engineered for both routine and regulated applications, the Nexera IC integrates advanced automation with intuitive software to reduce operator workload and ensure reliable results across laboratories of varying experience levels. Its space-saving design—measuring under 50 cm in height and 52 cm in width—enables efficient use of laboratory space without compromising analytical performance.

The system supports flexible workflows, including an optional dual injection configuration for simultaneous suppressed anion and cation analysis, enhancing throughput for drinking water and environmental testing. Automated sample preparation, including dilution and eluent mixing, minimises variability, while a total-volume injection system ensures precise sample delivery and eliminates waste.

High-throughput environments benefit from an autosampler capacity of up to 162 vials, supporting large-batch analysis with minimal intervention. Front-access components and simplified eluent handling further improve day-to-day usability and maintenance.

The Nexera IC has the option for carbonate eluent generation mixing without the need for historical expensive cartridges to allow for greater analyst assistance and reduced consumable burden

Supporting the hardware, Shimadzu’s IC Solution software enables standardised method setup and regulatory-compliant workflows, while IC Support software provides system monitoring, troubleshooting and maintenance guidance. Together, these tools help ensure consistent execution and compliance, regardless of operator expertise.

Combining automation, auto-dilution, intelligent monitoring and compact design, the Nexera IC is positioned to enhance productivity and reliability in modern water testing laboratories.
