Surface Measurement Systems is pleased to introduce the next generation of inverse Gas Chromatography (iGC) technology – the iGC Surface Energy Analyser (SEA).

The well-proven iGC technique involves sending a series of gasphase probe injections through a sample-packed column–the retention time is then measured and used to determine various surface properties of the sample.

The SEA represents a huge advance in inverse gas chromatography. Its unique injection manifold technology achieves the greatest precision in probe concentration, accurately producing isotherms at unprecedentedly high and low sample surface coverages. The SEA can also run experiments with a controlled-concentration vapour background.

As a result, the SEA can measure important surface properties of powders, particulates, fibres, films and semi-solids. These properties include surface energy (including heterogeneity mapping), work of adhesion/cohesion, competitive sorption, heat of sorption and acid/base properties.

Bulk properties including glass transition temperature, and solubility and diffusion parameters can also be measured using optional features in the SEA’s unique stand-alone analysis software.
