Imaging of Tumour Growth and Metastasis in a Pancreatic Cancer Mouse Model

Sep 04 2014

The iBox Scientia is an advanced fluorescent in vivo imaging system with high sensitivity CCD camera and optics. With the external BioLite MultiSpectral Light Source, the iBox Scientia system is able to visualise both normal white light images and multiplex fluorescence images. The iBox Scientia has a wide field of view (FOV) window that can monitor up to 4 mice at the same time. The system is broadly used in various studies in different biomedical research areas. For example, iBox Scientia was used to detect the tumour growth and metastasis in a pancreatic cancer mouse model. The human tumour xenograft model is a well-established method for cancer research. In this study, tumour tissues grown from RFP labelled MIA PaCa-2 cell were transplanted to nude mice. Tumour growth and metastasis were monitored in the mice at 1, 7, 14, 21, 28 days after transplantation. With iBox Scientia’s sensitive imaging technology, the increased RFP signal intensity indicating rapid tumour development was observed from the mouse body. The images were further analysed by UVP’s VisionWorks software and reliable quantitative measurements of tumour growth were achieved. Read the app note at http://www.uvp.com/pdf/apps/FP-186.pdf
