ELGA Process Water has supplied a second CENTRA R200 water purification system to Serco Technical Consulting Services at their Risley laboratory near Warrington. Serco provide a broad range of unique science and engineering based services that help maintain a safe operating environment across the nuclear, defence and rail sectors.
“In the corrosion laboratories, we run critical experiments for very high profile clients where the reliability of results is paramount”, said Peter Brown, Serco’s Corrosion Laboratory Manager. The new water treatment system comprising a CENTRA R200 with two service deionisation (SDI) cylinders will provide high purity water needed to support this
critical application.
The CENTRA R200’s reverse osmosis module removes over 90% of dissolved minerals and over 99% of organics and bacteria from the Risley mains water. The resulting ‘permeate’ is delivered into the CENTRA R200’s integral 350-litre storage tank from which the treated water is continuously pumped through the two SDI cylinders operating in series.
This ‘polishes’ the water to the required 10MW.cm resistivity. Water quality is monitored between the two cylinders and, when required, these are exchanged for fresh cylinders.
“We have been users of ELGA water purification systems for many years and have relied on them to produce the high purity water that we need”, said Peter. “Not only does the new CENTRA system ensure the levels of water purity are continually high, but ELGA Process Water’s engineers have supported us in getting the system running and integrated with our laboratories.”
