EMD Millipore introduces Mobius FlexReady solution

Jan 08 2013

EMD Millipore, the life science division of Merck KGaA has introduced the Mobius FlexRead solution, which boasts Smart Flexware Asemblies for tangential flow filtration.

The system gives specialists the ability to switch from TFF to Chromatography with a small number of component changes, meaning it is ideal for pilot plants and CMOs with rapidly changing demands.

It is suited for a number of concentration and diafiltration processes, while an automated flow control valve on the filtrate line enables open ultrafiltration and microfiltration processes.

Thanks to this technology, clinical development and manufacturing facilities can become more flexible.

Specialists can choose a variety of vessel configurations with the Mobius FlexReady Solution, providing maximum process capability. As well as this, users can select a plastic carrier or a double-jacketed stainless steel alternative.

All recycle vessels are provided with integrated load cells, a mixer and a temperature sensor, while their design makes it easy for them to be installed by a single operator.

Vin Donovan, vice president of Biopharm Process Solutions, said: "With the introduction of this fully automated Mobius® single-use TFF system, we are able to provide our customers that require a high level of processing control a choice for performing their Ultrafiltration/diafiltration operations.

"Users now have one platform for two process steps (TFF and Chromatography) with both systems sharing the same Smart Cart and software, thus streamlining the capital investment and learning curve while speeding their molecule to clinic."

News of this system comes after Merck Millipore announced an exclusive collaboration with Ventria Bioscience.

Under the agreement, Ventria will manufacture and supply a recombinant product that meets the requirements for use as a raw material in cGMP biopharmaceutical production.

The product utilises Ventria's ExpressTec biomanufacturing technology and will be marketed and distributed by Merck Millipore to customers around the globe.

The company hopes that the deal will help it to expand its line of non-animal origin products and provide a wide range of biomanufacturing solutions.
