The AB SCIEX QTRAP® 5500 System, a unique, next-generation mass spectrometer from Applied Biosystems and its mass spectrometry joint-venture partner, MDS Analytical Technologies, has received the Scientists’ Choice Award for Best New Spectroscopy Product. This award, by SelectScience.net was based on the results of an independent poll of more than 25,000 scientists.

The AB SCIEX QTRAP 5500 System is the only system on the market that combines qualitative and quantitative analysis capabilities in a single instrument. This allows scientists to identify and confirm a greater number of compounds, proteins and contaminants in a single analysis, instead of using two different technologies to achieve the same results.

The system was developed for a wide variety of laboratory applications, such as drug discovery, food testing, environmental analysis and the study of diseases. The AB SCIEX 5500 System is the newest addition to the comprehensive portfolio of LC/MS/MS mass spectrometry systems, software and workflow applications from Applied Biosystems/MDS Analytical Technologies.

For qualitative analysis, this system features a new innovation in ion trap technology known as Linear Accelerator™ Trap, which is combined with industry-leading triple quadrupole capabilities for quantitative analysis, to create an innovative, one-of-akind system.
