Generating calibration gas standards with calibrators and perm tubes from VICI Metronics offers several advantages over relying on bottled calibration standards. Gas mixtures can be easily generated by using the appropriate combination of perm tubes, with hundreds of compounds available. This technique also allows the removal of a single component from a gas mixture by simply removing the appropriate perm tube. With a Dynacalibrator, a wide range of concentrations can be generated by varying the dilution flow rate and/or the temperature set point.

By contrast, bottled trace level standards (ppb and ppm) can be very expensive, and

calibrations requiring multiple components over a wide range of concentrations require a large number of gas cylinders, which consume valuable lab space. Problems can also arise from degradation of the standard within the cylinder, from changes in cylinder pressure, and from interaction of calibration components and surfaces.
