Digital pathology platform delivers comprehensive diagnostics

The Diagnostics & Research Institute for Pathology at the Medical University of Graz, one of Austria's largest hospitals and a leader in personalised patient care, has chosen the HALO AP® digital pathology platform from Indica Labs to enhance its primary diagnostics capabilities. The platform, in conjunction with Leica Biosystems' Aperio GT 450 scanners, was selected for its high performance, quality, and user-friendly functionality.

HALO AP® is widely trusted by hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, and contract research organisations (CROs), offering AI-enabled workflows that streamline diagnostics, second opinions, consultations, and research pipelines, all in one unified platform. By January 2025, the Medical University of Graz expects to process around 400,000 glass slides annually using HALO AP®, facilitated by a team of 30 pathologists.

The institute plans to integrate HALO AP® with the PAS Xanthos laboratory information system to ensure smooth data accessibility and workflow efficiency. The platform's compatibility with the DICOM file format will also allow for easy data management and future research initiatives.

Professor Peter Regitnig from the Medical University of Graz expressed enthusiasm for the digital transformation, emphasising that HALO AP® will enhance the interpretation of complex morphological features and lay the foundation for AI-driven analysis, positioning the institution at the forefront of data-driven pathology practices.

In addition to improving diagnostic workflows, the Medical University of Graz will utilise HALO AP® to digitise tumour boards and create annotated digital training sets to support medical education.

Indica Labs' CEO, Steven Hashagen, commented on the partnership, expressing pride in supporting precision medicine at such a prestigious institution and highlighting HALO AP®’s future-proof capabilities, including its ability to integrate AI algorithms for diagnostics.
