Med Uni Graz has appointed Professor Jan Bucerius as its new University Professor of Nuclear Medicine. Bucerius, a leading figure in nuclear medicine diagnostics and therapy, will also head the Division of Nuclear Medicine at University Hospital Graz’s Department of Radiology.
With a distinguished international career spanning Germany, the Netherlands, and the USA, Bucerius brings extensive expertise in positron emission tomography (PET/CT) and nuclear cardiology. His research focuses on cutting-edge PET imaging techniques for early cardiovascular disease detection, systemic inflammation diagnostics, and whole-body inter-organ analysis, including the heart-brain axis.
Professor Bucerius aims to advance nuclear medicine as a cornerstone of personalised, patient-centred care by developing innovative PET tracer technologies and inter-disciplinary diagnostic approaches. He plans to build on Med Uni Graz’s strengths to establish the division as a globally recognised centre for systemic nuclear medicine diagnostics and translational research.
“My vision is to leverage whole-body PET imaging to identify disease causes at their earliest stages and enable targeted treatment across medical specialties,” Bucerius said.
This strategic appointment underscores Med Uni Graz’s commitment to pioneering nuclear medicine research and delivering precision diagnostics on an international scale.
