Exclusive distribution partnership secures Japanese market

17 Mar, 2026

PL BioScience, a German life science company specialising in Human Platelet Lysate (HPL), has signed an exclusive agreement with Summit Pharmaceuticals International Corporation (SPI) to distribute its ELAREM™ Ultimate-FD PLUS (GMP Grade) and broader ELAREM™ platform in Japan.

The partnership marks PL BioScience’s first dedicated distribution arrangement in the Japanese market, providing local customers with streamlined product access, expert support, and faster adoption of GMP-grade cell culture media for clinical applications.

SPI, part of the Sumitomo Corporation Group, offers global pharmaceutical sourcing, licensing, and manufacturing support. The collaboration positions PL BioScience to meet rising demand in Japan, where the cell culture media market is expected to grow around 12–14% annually over the next decade, driven by research, biopharmaceutical, and regenerative medicine sectors.

“We are excited to team up with SPI as we expand into Japan,” said Jungsoo Park, VP of Marketing and Sales at PL BioScience. “This agreement ensures that Japanese developers have direct access to high-quality, GMP-qualified materials and the local expertise needed to accelerate early-stage development.”
