Large-volume sample preparation has just become quicker and easier than ever thanks to the new ETHOS X microwave extraction system from Milestone, exclusive to Analytix in the UK and Ireland. The system is suitable for US EPA method 3546 and ASTM D5765-05 (Standard Practice for Solvent Extraction of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons from Soils and Sediments) and processes more samples in a fraction of the time than present soxhlet procedures whilst using much less solvent.

Typical applications include the preparation of environmental samples, for which a completely new rotor has been specifically developed. This consists of a 24-position carousel that holds large-pressure vessels made of an innovative and unique inert polymer material that house disposable and inexpensive 100 mL glass vials.

The ETHOS X has a cavity volume greater than 70 litres and an installed power of 1900W making it the most powerful microwave platform system available for extraction. The instrument is controlled via new compact terminals with an easy-to-read, bright, full-colour, touchscreen display. The terminals run a completely new user-friendly, icon-driven, multi-language software to provide easy control of the microwave run whilst storing the run data for future reporting.
