Ambient preservation expands access to 3D cell models

26 May, 2026

Atelerix has launched STORganoid™, an ambient-temperature preservation solution designed to simplify the storage and transport of organoids and spheroids.

The system uses a proprietary hydrogel encapsulation technology that stabilises complex 3D cell models in a soft matrix, enabling them to be stored and shipped for extended periods without the need for cryopreservation. The approach is intended to maintain viability and reproducibility while removing reliance on cold-chain logistics.

Organoids and spheroids are increasingly used in drug discovery and disease modelling as part of growing adoption of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs), but their fragility and sensitivity to temperature shifts have limited wider use outside specialist laboratories.

By enabling ambient storage in an assay-ready format, STORganoid is designed to make these models easier to handle and distribute across research sites, supporting more consistent experimental workflows and broader collaboration in cell-based research.
