Cepheid, a senior sponsor of the Federation of Infection Societies (FIS) Action on Infection conference and exhibition, offered live MRSA testing to visitors to its exhibition stand. Held at the ICC, Birmingham, from the 11th to the 13th of November 2013, conference attendees were invited into a virtual ward, where representatives from Cepheid were on hand to take samples for determination of MRSA and MSSA nasal carriage status. Visitors to this interactive suite also had the opportunity to view the Company’s GeneXpert® GX-II automated diagnostic instrument, part of the GeneXpert range of fully scalable, molecular diagnostic workstations.

Cepheid also showcased the larger, 16-module configuration GeneXpert GXXVI, providing a comprehensive demonstration of the system’s capabilities. This system was used to perform live testing of delegate samples with the Xpert® SA Nasal Complete rapid test, delivering sensitive and accurate results in just over an hour. The recently launched Winter Care Bundle, which also includes the Xpert Norovirus, Xpert C. difficile and Xpert Flu tests, were highlighted, backed by a wealth of technical information, including abstracts describing the evaluation of the clinical performance of the Xpert Flu test and the development and comparative evaluation of Xpert Norovirus.
