Fast and automated nitrogen/protein and carbon analysis for food and industrial laboratories with the ELEMENTRAC CN-r

03 Feb, 2026

Efficient and reliable determination of carbon and nitrogen, including protein calculation, is a central requirement for quality control and batch-to-batch consistency across industrial and analytical laboratories. The ELEMENTRAC CN-r from ELTRA is designed to support routine and high throughput analysis of a wide range of matrices ranging from liquid to solid. The analyser combines automated sample handling for up to 32 samples with rapid Dumas combustion analysis, delivering results in 2 minutes and 30 seconds per sample. With a smart maintenance concept that allows all consumables to be exchanged in under 15 minutes, the ELEMENTRAC CN-r enables continuous operation with minimal downtime.  Read more.

ELTRA is a leading manufacturer of elemental analysers for the rapid and precise determination of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and sulphur content using combustion methods. With more than 40 years of experience, ELTRA develops innovative solutions for a wide range of samples and concentrations. With the newest addition to the series, the ELEMENTRAC CN-r, carbon and nitrogen are determined, acquiring important industries ranging from food to coal mining. The ELEMENTRAC CN-r applies the Dumas combustion method for the determination of carbon and nitrogen. Many standards and norms include the Dumas alongside the Kjeldahl method. Compared to the Kjeldahl method, combustion analysis offers a fully automated workflow, eliminates the use of hazardous chemicals, and significantly reduces analysis time.

Fast workflow and easy maintenance

Equipped with a fully automated autoloader for up to 32 samples, the ELEMENTRAC CN-r streamlines batch analysis: delivering precise results in 2 minutes and 30 seconds per sample. Laboratories can maximise throughput and minimise handling time. All consumables can be replaced in under 15 minutes while the analyser remains in a ready state. This design keeps downtime to a minimum and ensures laboratories can stay focused on results, not routine maintenance.

Versatile elemental analysis

The ELEMENTRAC CN-r is suitable for routine and high throughput quality control laboratories. Typical applications for carbon and nitrogen determination include incoming material inspection, production control and quality assessment in accordance with regulatory and labelling requirements. In the food sector, it is used for the determination of nitrogen and calculated protein content in raw materials, in process samples and finished products. The system supports any sample matrix, ranging from liquid to solid, enabling reliable nitrogen determination across diverse applications, including milk products. The analyser guarantees complete and robust Dumas combustion under an oxygen atmosphere.

Norm compliant

Compliance with international standards is a key requirement for regulated environments. The ELEMENTRAC CN-r supports commonly applied norms such as DIN EN ISO 16634, AOAC 992.23, AOAC 993.13 and more. Integrated software features provide secure data handling, traceability and compatibility with LIMS. Designed with laboratory efficiency in mind, the ELEMENTRAC CN-r combines high analytical throughput, simplified maintenance and method-compliant performance in a compact system.
